Lib Dems Vote To Revert Bus Lane Operating Times
Lib Dems vote to revert bus lane operating times
Today, Hull's Liberal Democrat Cabinet, have voted to change the city’s bus lane operating times to peak time only.
The move follows extensive consultation with the residents of Hull, who the new Lib Dem administration said they would listen to.
Liberal Democrat Cabinet Members were presented with three options by Hull City Council Officers. Revert bus lanes to peak time only operation, have a new earlier peak time operating system or keep all day bus lanes enforced. While officers recommended no change to Hull’s bus lanes, Lib Dem Councillors voted to introduce peak time only operating times.
The Party have committed to deliver real change on Hull’s roads and confirmed bus lanes will be changed to peak time only operation. It comes after Labour boss Daren Hale failed to listen to Hull's residents, caused traffic chaos on the roads and refused to act.
As part of creating a listening council, the Lib Dems carried out the largest ever transport survey which gained over 20,000 responses. Now, after the results indicated residents wanted to revert back to peak time only operation, the Party has delivered.
The Lib Dems on Hull City Council have also secured funding to ensure Freetown Way is changed back to two lanes of traffic with off road cycling. The party is also working on more changes to tackle congestion including more off road cycle paths and a new team to help make the city’s traffic flow better.
Commenting, Liberal Democrat Leader Cllr Mike Ross, said:
“Liberal Democrats promised to listen to the residents of Hull and we have. Local people asked for bus lanes to go back to peak times only - so we are doing it after just 18 months in charge.
“The last Labour Council led by Daren Hale failed to listen to Hull residents and caused traffic chaos on the roads. Labour rushed through changes and created a real sorry saga for our city. They gridlocked Hull's roads and stalled this city, but now the Liberal Democrats are fixing their mess.
“Real change takes time, and after years of Hull being taken for granted by Daren Hale and the Labour bosses, the Lib Dems are getting to work and delivering for local people.
“Our message is clear: We’ll always listen, we’ll always be on your side and together, we’ll continue to move this city forward.”
